Set in the beautiful Mediterranean rugged green hills amongst the olive trees, this peaceful town is full of traditional charm. Its tranquility extends inside and out the town thanks to the beautiful people, its number of interesting places to visit in this area and the natural views to the distant sea. Yes, I’m talking about the amazing Son Servera! With the buzzing nightlife and spectacular beaches of Cala Millor just a stone’s throw away, it truly has the best of both worlds. Located in the north-west of the island of Mallorca on a hill with sea views in an area known as the Llevant, Son Servera is surrounded by an exceptional natural landscape.
Its traditional activities were once linked to agriculture, stockbreeding and fishing, until the tourism activity turned the hospitality industry into the main driving force of the economy. As in many of the towns and villages from Mallorca, Son Servera is no different in a history dating back to the middle ages that is both varied and unique. The town is believed to have been taken its name from the Servera family, the owners of the land in which King James of Aragon founded this early settlement.
Leaving aside the history, here you have an idea about locations where you can go, what you can visit and how wonderful you can make the holiday in a place like this. First, Son Servera’s architecture is in a traditional Mediterranean style so if you are a history addicted or you love everything about it, then in the heart of the town you’ll find the Plaça de Sant Joan and the church of the same name with the defensive tower originally built on the Frai Garí estate. There is also the Església Nova (New Church), an unfinished, roofless building where religious and cultural events are held.
When it comes to games and stuff, nothing can beat Son Servera Golf being Mallorca’s second oldest course and opened in the 1960s as a nine-hole course( in 2012, has been expanded to 18 holes). The additional golf courses of Canyamel and Capdepera are also easily accessible from here. Son Servera is a town of many qualities. Not only that is located in a municipality containing a wide range of attractions appealing to all tastes, but is an ideal base for a holiday in Mallorca. If the idea of a relaxing break that offers seclusion from the hustle and bustle of daily life is tempting to you, then the municipality of Son Servera includes the popular resort of Cala Millor with a long sandy beach located between the smaller resort of Cala Bona and the protected natural area of Sa Punta de n’Amer.
Situated close to the vibrant and energetic town of Cala Millor, yet tucked away in the shadow of the Muntanya De Calicant, you are sure to have the best of what the area has to offer. If you want to treat yourself with a fun night out, this is the place to do it. For something a little quieter, try Costa de los Pinos. The shingly shore is the perfect spot for some peaceful sunbathing and the sheltered waters are calmer than many others along this stretch of coast. All of these reasons culminate in Costa de los Pinos being a perfect place to give the kids some uninterrupted swimming lessons. With views of pine forest behind you and the blue waves of the Balearic in front of you, it’s hard to imagine a more scenic spot.
The contrast of quiet countryside with warm sandy beaches together with the life of Mallorca set alongside its tranquillity is an experience to satisfy the most demanding of expectations. Peace, space and natural serenity are just a few words that are describing this corner of paradise. If you have the desire to see the precious places that Mallorca has to offer, then a stay here might well be worth your consideration.
