The Castle of Alaró

Today we are going to approach the Castle of Alaró. This is a very special place that we referred to in a previous article.

The Castell d’Alaró is located at the top of the hill of Alaró, at 815 m altitude. It is one of the 3 rock castles of Majorca (along with the Castell del Santuari in Felanitx, and the Castell del Rei in Pollença) that served as protection and defense of the island. Thanks to its strategic location, it guaranteed the detection of the attackers soon.

Reaching the castle on foot is a custom much appreciated by lovers of adventure. There are different routes that are detailed on the official website of the Castell d’Alaró Foundation and that start from different points.

If you like mountaineering this is the perfect option to spend an autumn morning. The area offers many elements apart from the beauty of the place, such as archaeological sites, the meteorological station and many legends that enrich the experience.

On foot routes

You can do the route on foot from the town, since all the shortcuts are marked by the Dry Stone Route. Although it is the least common, it is always pleasant to walk the streets of a mountain town as pictorial as Alaró.

The tour starts in the town center of the same town, you just have to follow the indications that guide towards the Orient road. This part of the road is marked in its entirety and there is no loss.

Legends and rumors

Legend has it that on the night of San Juan, the witches of Alcadena walk from the castle from the top to the top. In fact, during the summer solstice a peculiar meteorological event occurs, since moisture and hot currents create strands of fog between the two mountains.
